Another tie wasn’t such a bad result for the Waunakee boys’ soccer team.

Going on the road to play rival DeForest, the Warriors left with a 0-0 draw on Friday to move to 6-1-9 overall on the season and 3-0-3 in Badger East Conference play. It was an entertaining match.

“It was a very well-played and hard-fought game with both teams recording four shots on goal,” said Dave Kettner, head coach of the Warriors. “With the draw, we are in a very good position to win the Badger East Northern Division this week if we can close out Badger Conference play with games against Fort Atkinson (Tuesday, Oct. 4) and Reedsburg on Thursday (Oct. 6). If so, we will likely face Monona Grove in the Badger East Championship game on Tuesday Oct. 11 at Monona Grove.”

Waunakee’s defense has been stout all season. The Warriors were stingy again in the DeForest match.

“Finally, the team continues to prove itself as a solid defensive squad with only one loss on the record this season,” said Kettner. “We are still looking for another breakout game for our goal scorers as we approach the end of the season. Hopefully tonight and Thursday will provide that opportunity.”
