The Waunakee boys’ soccer team extended their unbeaten streak to double digits this week, defeating Beaver Dam on Senior Night before battling Kimberly to a scoreless tie on Friday.

Waunakee got off to a good start on their Senior Night, putting pressure on goal early. Five minutes in, Brennen Miller found Chris Laack, whose shot bounced off the goalie. James Bradley was there to put the rebound in, though, and the Warriors led 1-0.

Beaver Dam tied the game in the 16th minute as they went down the right side before crossing and finding the back of the goal.

From that point on, it was all Waunakee.

The Warriors responded as Jacob Mouille found Cameron Hayko, who advanced on goal and buried a shot for a 2-1 lead. Waunakee just kept the pressure on from there. Brennen Miller had a couple of shots saved, Sam Acker had a shot go just high, and Hudson Miller had a shot down the middle saved. Though Waunakee had plenty of opportunities, the half ended with the Warriors leading 2-1.

Waunakee continued to attack, but kept coming up empty until the 72nd minute, when Nathan Mais received a nice through ball, eluded several defenders, and found the net for goal number three.

Barely a minute later, the Warriors earned a free kick just outside the box, which Brennen Miller converted for a goal. With comfortable 4-1 lead, Waunakee added one more when Mouille went up the left and connected with Hayko in front of the goal. Hayko buried his second goal of the night, and Waunakee’s Senior Night ended with a 5-1 victory: their 10th straight game without a loss.

Waunakee 0, Kimberly 0

Both teams had several corners and free kicks, but neither could capitalize. In the final minute of the half, Kimberly had a breakaway, but Hudson Miller stayed with the opponent and Ben Koss flew in, clearing the ball to preserve the scoreless tie going into halftime.

As the second half progressed, the physical play continued to produce corners and free kicks for both teams. The Warriors had their best chance at the 10-minute mark, when Acker blasted a shot that Kimberly’s goalie managed to corral. Neither team was able to break through in the remaining time, and the score remained 0-0.

The following day, Waunakee’s game against Neenah was cancelled, so the Warriors next game came against DeForest on Tuesday, the results of which were not available for this week’s edition.

The winner of the Waunakee/DeForest matchup, held at MATC’s Goodman field, will have the upper hand in the Badger North; DeForest went into the game with a 5-0-0 conference record, while the Warriors were 4-0-1, and 8-2-4 overall.

Madison Memorial 2, Waunakee 0

Memorial got an early jump on the Warriors, scoring twice in the first 24 minutes to go up 2-0. They’d never relinquish the lead, despite six shots on goal from Waunakee, and the game ended with the Warriors on the short end of the 2-0 score.

Waunakee 8, Reedsburg 0

Charlie Steck started the scoring for Waunakee at the six-minute mark, putting Waunakee up 1-0. Steck added another goal three minutes later to double Waunakee’s lead, and the Warriors were rolling. Trevor Peterson and Brad Li each scored before halftime, and Waunakee led 4-0 heading into the second half.

Mason Lee scored twice early in the second, and Steck completed his hat trick with a goal at the 65-minute mark. Up 7-0, Joe Thompson got the final goal of the game 73 minutes in. Joey Fuhremann got the win in goal, recording a shutout.
